Global Impact Week is a time for students to learn about opportunities to serve the community, both close and far from home. Missions organizations supported by the Free Methodist Denomination, local churches, and Greenville College will speak to students about how to get involved, big and small. In his work, “Holy Things”, Gordon Lathrop states that, “authentic continuity requires responsible change” (p. 5). This is to say that the discussions we have today regarding faith are not ones that we ought to take lightly. Rather, what we discern in contemporary discussions of evolution versus seven-day creation is going to inform future generations. Furthermore, the faith we have been given in the 21st century is not the same of the Early Church.

THIS SATURDAY - September 28th, 2013 beginning at 9:00am the entire Bond County Ministerial Alliance in Greenville, Illinois is uniting and trying to package 60,000 meals for orphans dying every 90 seconds in poverty stricken countries.

Imagine everything you’ve ever sent to anyone: your phone calls, texts, emails. Think about the places that you have been with your cell phone. Those were meant to be personal and private. That’s how you probably want them to stay. But recent events have made Americans question how confidential this kind of communication really is. Much of this suspicion is due to the work of the National Security Agency (NSA). The NSA’s mission is, “Defending our nation. Securing the future.” But the NSA is beginning to see a lot of negative reactions to their continuing activities. Many people see these activities as offenses of the fourth amendment rather than ways to enhance security. But to others, it makes them feel a lot less secure.

It was interesting to hear all of the responses to this question, and I am inclined to agree with the answer of the majority. It seems that a lot of the time, whenever someone feels a headache coming on, they pop a pill. A great many of us like to start our day with a cup of coffee or some other caffeinated drink. We may not think about it like that, but drugs creep into our daily lives more often than it seems.

As a Christian institution, Greenville athletic teams are challenged with the task of incorporating faith into sports. But what does that really mean? Is incorporating faith into sports as simple as praying before competitions, or conducting sportsmanship that is noticeably admirable? The sad truth is that many Christian athletes leave faith at the front door when they enter an athletic arena. Faith in sports can easily be consumed by competitive nature in the pursuit of victory. However, some teams at Greenville College are looking beyond the perishable victor’s crown, and gazing upon the eternal crown of heaven. One of these teams is the Men’s and Women’s cross country team.

The Greenville community gathered this Saturday, September 21, for its annual celebration of local artists. Artisans from the town of Greenville extending out to the greater St. Louis area spent the evening sharing their craft with the community. Main events included the Piety Choi Art Exhibition, Our Common Ground Artists Guild, as well as “Glitch Art” displayed in the College’s Digital Media Center.
