A New Legacy
It is a countdown thousands upon thousands of fans have been waiting for ever since the news was announced. The more we near one of the best holidays of the year, people are just as excited that there is one more week left in a different countdown. On the Dec. 18, three of our favorite heroes from a galaxy far, far away will return to the big screen once again! Yes, people, we are talking about “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.”
It has been 32 years since the end of the first trilogy with the original characters and 10 years since the end of the prequel trilogy. We have certainly waited long enough to have a new set of movies. Only this time, the movie will encompass both the old and the new together including the fan-favorite three characters Luke, Leia and Han Solo, along with new characters Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren.
The original movies starred Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. The film released in 1977 and became one of the biggest and fastest growing franchises and fan bases. It immediately became a hit, with its incredible storyline and top of the line graphics. The story of three unlikely friends taking on an all powerful empire as they discovered the force swept over our world like a storm. The madness all started again in 1999 with “Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace“: The trilogy explaining why Anakin Skywalker would become Darth Vader, starring a whole new cast.
Now we are left with the most anticipated question of the Star War series: What happened in the forty year period after Luke defeated the emperor? According to MoviePIlot J.J. Abrams and his fellow writers, Rey was abandoned on a scavenger planet and has lived there most of her life waiting for her family to return. We also know Rey is expected to be our main protagonist, taking the place of Luke Skywalker in this latest film. There also have been some speculation and rumors going around that Rey could be Kylo Ren’s sister.
As for our favorite heroes— they are villains! But not in the way you think. Since the end of the empire, Luke, Leia and Han are wanted outlaws. Luke especially, he is considered a very dangerous villain to the empire and its people. Princess Leia happens to be General Leia now and will be a major leader in the rebellion and the new order. The biggest problem within the force seems to be that they are like myths to some of these worlds. This is what makes it so easy to twist the stories and make them look like villains. This is a problem for some of the new characters, as they will struggle with which side of the force is actually good.
Considering J.J. Abrams is directing it, cast some of the original cast and a new cast of amazing actors, there should be no doubt that this movie will be compelling great addition to the franchise.
