Mr. Lynn Carlson has been coaching the Greenville College Baseball team since the spring of 1997. With his faith and his experience, he leads his team well. As an alumnus of Greenville College, he competed in men’s basketball and baseball before signing a professional baseball contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1990 and pitching in the Pirates’ and San Diego Padres’ organizations for two seasons. After his two years, he came back and graduated in 1993. He also has a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky.

Past

Over the past few years, Carlson has coached during many games and practices. In 2010 his record was 28-14, 2011 it was 19-23, 2012 17-22, 2013 16-19, 2014 24-20, 2015 22-21, and as of now the Panthers have a 3-9 record. Carlson has taught his players about leadership and faith in God. He shows what it takes to be a good leader and a good coach.

 Now

With 400 wins, Carlson has come a long way from where he first began. Along with being a full-time coach, he also teaches throughout the year.  The Panthers have a big season ahead with hopes of returning to the conference championship game, as well as the NCAA tournament.

Future

The team will be on their way to Florida for spring break. They kick off their games on March 21 against Bowdoin at 10:00 a.m. Their next home game will take place on April 2 at 1:00 p.m. This game will be a double header.

Take a gander at the podcast below to hear what Coach Carlson has to say about what it was like to play in professional baseball, his goals for the season, his favorite part of coaching, his biggest achievement other than his 400th win, who his biggest inspiration is and what he is looking forward to in the years to come.
