Spring Training Begins

Spring training for the 2016 baseball season has finally begun with teams playing in Arizona and Florida. The teams have had pitchers and catchers report and have even started playing a few games. The teams that are playing in Arizona, also known as the Cactus League, include the Los Angeles Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland A’s, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers. The teams that are playing farther south in Florida, also known as the Grapefruit League, include the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros , Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals , Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays  and the Washington Nationals.

The pitchers and catchers had their first workout from February 18 through February 22. Full squad workouts lasted the 22-27 of February. Games began on the first of March. The St. Louis Cardinals now have a record of 7-4, the Chicago Cubs 3-8, the Boston Red Sox 5-6, New York Yankees 3-7 and the  defending World Series Champion Kansas City Royals 5-8.  With plenty of games left on the spring training schedule, many teams have quite a bit of time left to prepare for the upcoming 2016 season.

Goal

With all their hard work and dedication to their team and baseball, all of the players have one goal, to win the World Series. From day one all the way up to the playoffs every single baseball player is doing what they can to get their team to those games in October.

Big Talk

The big talk of the 2016 spring training is Pablo Sandoval‘s weight. Sandoval, the third baseman for the Boston Red Sox, has lost weight once again. Although he didn’t have the best season statistically last year, Sandoval has lost around 20 pounds in hope that he will have a much better season this year.

Who will play

Spring training is like fine tuning, with plenty of games left to get prepared for the season, it is a big question as to which two teams will make it to the World Series.  Who knows, maybe the Cubs will finally make it for the first time in over a century?  Is it finally their year?

  1. Briana,
overall good. I like the insert regarding Sandoval, but I’m assuming the “Big Talk” wasn’t his weight. True? Explain more in the article or give it another title, like, “breaking news” …its a creative piece.
