What a wonderful weekend for the Greenville University track team to head out to dominate in their track meet. LET’S GO GU!

Today’s article features one of Greenville’s veteran sprinters junior, Steven Oscar who is a lightning bolt on the track! Oscar is a dual-sport athlete participating in both track and football. He is also known in football as one of the fastest players on the team.

Born and raised in Vero Beach, Florida, Oscar attended Sebastian Christian High School. At a very young age many people admired the unusual speed Oscar has. He always loved to run and racing people growing up. He also had so much space to where he could just let loose, run, and be free with his friends. His physical education teacher actually took notice in Oscar and insisted that he run track because he was that fast.

He began his track career in the third grade and has been running ever since. From elementary to high school, Oscar pretty much dominated in the sport. After high school, he traveled thousands of miles to what was then Greenville College, now Greenville University for both track and football.

Oscar’s attitude for athletics and life is, “No matter how hard life gets, never give up.” That is something that he takes to heart. Everyone goes through obstacles no matter how big or small they are. Adversity is something that challenges how strong you are as a person, but the real test of character is if you will overcome it.

Oscar has been on the Greenville University track team since his freshman year. He has gotten faster and faster each season. The events that he participates in are the 60m dash, 100m dash, 200m, 4×1, and 4×2 relays, all being sprinter races. Track is something that Oscar would consider being in his comfort zone. Oscar is a very quiet and laid back guy. Running and competing is what keeps him at peace.

He really loves the opportunity to get better over time and perfecting his craft. Many people may think track is just about hopping on a track and running but that is far from the case. You have to be both physically and mentally tough when running against the competition. It is easy for people to claim they’re fast and running track is where you put your money where your mouth is!

After just finishing a football season and now entering his junior track season, it is sad to say, but he only has one year left. One last ride lies ahead of him for both football and track. Competing at his highest level in both sports, Oscar plans on going out with a bang his senior season as a Greenville Panther by leaving everything on the football field and the track with many more questions to be asked. Being talented in two sports gives him better opportunities to further his career to the next level. A blessed young man he is!
