With a new head coach heading into the season, the Esports program is aiming to have a great year. While their focus is geared to follow a special structure of competition, creation, and community set by their coach, BJ Fink, there is a new perspective set by returning members of the team as well as incoming freshmen. Michael Holmes, a senior at GU, will be heading into his third year on the team.  When asked how the graduating seniors will impact the team this year, Holmes commented that no one on the siege team was graduating and also that he could not recall at the time any seniors currently in the process of preparing to graduate on the E-sports team.  There are several new freshmen who have joined the team this year and Holmes mentioned that a lot of them have great potential. He feels that this potential will help carry the team to new heights. Holmes is very optimistic that the freshman can and will bring something new to the program. He added that he is beyond excited to watch them turn over a new leaf.

When Holmes was asked what games he would be competing in this year and when he began his journey into competitive gaming, he responded, “I will be competing on the Rainbow 6 Siege team and this will be my third year, as the team was started my sophomore year.” When asked what his favorite part of competing on the team was, he confidently stated, “It has to be the moments when you have to clutch up and feel the adrenaline start to kick in.” Holmes’ message to anyone who wants to join the team and compete is to just go for it since there is a place open for everyone to play. Specifically, he mentioned, “They should join GU’s E-sports program because we are about to move into a new studio in the SMART Center and you will be a part of a program that is about to start to take off.” Joining the team comes with benefits. With the costs of meals, transportation, and tournaments paid for, individuals interested in doing so should in fact dive in as they have nothing to lose. E-sports may be fairly new to the Greenville University community but is without a doubt growing rapidly. With this sudden growth in mind, why not carve your name into the early history of the sport now?

The season is expected to have a fairly interesting start as Holmes mentioned that there will be new and amazing potential brought to the team.
