It’s been a long time since Flint Lockwood has been recognized for what he does. He’s been trying incredibly hard as of late. He just wants to be recognized as the great inventor that he is, like his hero Chester V, one of the greatest inventors of all time and founder of LiveCorp. But Flint may have gone overboard this time. After his invention, the Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator (FLDSMDFR for short), nearly destroyed the world, maybe it was time for Flint to hang up his fabled inventors coat.

But, when the U.N. hires Chester V to clean up the mess, he wants Flint to join LiveCorp to help make the world a better place! Flint is astonished, now he can finally achieve the recognition he’s only dreamed about. Now people can stop making fun of him. Now he can finally fulfill his purpose.

But, when the FLDSMDFR makes a comeback, it starts creating more food. But not just more food, more food that’s alive. Now it’s up to Flint to outwit the cunning foodimals before they swim to the mainland and DESTROY LADY LIBERTY. But first, he has to shut off the FLDSMDFR. Standing in his way is tacodiles, shrimpanzees and cheese spiders.

This sequel follows the exact same formula as the first film. It’s full of puns, awkward pauses, and colors, lots of colors. It’s an extremely fun film to watch and the visuals are even more dazzling than the first film. But as we noted in our first Trailer Trash, they might have a hard time stretching this out into a second film. This wasn’t really an issue. Like Austin and I observed and what I saw on the silver screen, this sequel relied “heavily on wordplay and puns (which is what the first film did).”

The story and main themes might not have been the most creative (underdog with the help of his friends + a maniacal villain = finding his destiny), but the world the filmmakers created on Swallow Falls was simply a treat to watch. It was also fun to see characters we loved from the first film find themselves on a whole new adventure.

Kids will love it, but college students might appreciate the humor more. In the beginning, one of the title credits even says: “Here’s another movie by a lot of people.” While it wasn’t on par like the first installment was, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 was a visually fun ride to go on. One I will surely love to ride again and again.
