While sitting here in my bedroom, eating my Slim Jims and a bowl of potato salad, trying to figure out how I am going to find time to do my homework and write this article, I came up with a novel idea. In times of stress, comfort foods are sometimes the key to happiness. That means if Starbursts or Oreos or potato chips or Charleston Chews or any other snacks of your choice are what will get you through the stress of homework and papers, then indulge. However, for your own health, moderation should be considered when eating unhealthy snacks. Maybe you could eat a healthy snack while doing your homework instead? If you want a nutritious snack, then these are some options for you.
1. Pumpkin seeds
This is the time of year for pumpkins, so let’s not only put a smile on the pumpkins face, but also put a smile on your face by roasting the pumpkins seeds. After cleaning and roasting the pumpkin seeds, you can eat the pumpkin seeds to your heart’s content.

2. Nuts
All nuts are good for you in moderation. But the nuts that are truly healthy for you are: Almonds, Pistachios, Cashews, and Walnuts. When you want a crunch with a slight taste of salt and sweet, then these nuts are perfect for you.

3. Peanut Butter
Peanut Butter is good for you, but like nuts, you have to eat it in moderation. Try putting peanut butter in the middle of a celery stalk or using it as a dip for your apples. Peanut butter can take the place of caramel if you use it as a dip.

4. Hummus
Another nutritious dip, made of chick peas and olive oil, is Hummus. The foreign sounding Hummus might sound odd but it can be delicious. Try hummus on toasted wheat crackers, pita chips, celery, or Town House crackers.

5. Nutella
Nutella is a mixture of hazelnuts and hints of cocoa. Who doesn’t love chocolate? This spread is great on toasted wheat bread, white bread, pancakes or waffles. Nutella can be used to make homemade Goobers or Raisinettes.

6. Fruits
Fruits such as: Oranges, Bananas, Apples, Kiwi’s, and Mangos. These fruits can be eaten at room temperature. So you can have them sitting out all day in your dorm room and still eat them. Oranges, Bananas, and Apples all taste great when you smother chocolate on them, so why not slather the Nutella or dark chocolate on the luscious and nutritious fruits? Give it a try and get a healthy boost while studying for your upcoming midterms!
