Now that Fall Break (RIP my tiny vacation) is out of the way, it’s safe to say we are fully submersed into the semester. I can no longer pretend school has only just begun and use “just getting into the hang of things” as an excuse for showing up ten minutes late to class. Unfortunately, we have to realize summer, without a single doubt, is gone.
The good part of accepting the fall semester is that by now, most of us are fully familiar with Greenville as a town. We know where Dollar General is, how to get to Taco Bell and the route to at least three banks in town. Yet, one place continues to be unknown by the majority of the college population: JC Video.
I have worked in the town’s only video rental shop for over five years now. Nearly every shift, I have at least one college student stumble in, stare at our fake wooden walls in awe, and murmur, “I had no idea this existed!”
Attached to the laundromat across the street from Maves Art Center, JC has a wide selection of movies varying in price from $1 to $3.50. In addition to the rentals, the video store also has a continual deal of Buy 2 Get One Free in both DVD and Blu-Ray movies, a deal that has added to my selection tremendously while barely even affecting my wallet! In case you want to stop by and see what they have to offer, here are the Oct. new releases!
(The following movies are listed in order as they were released on DVD with their Rotten Tomatoes scores and the Best Rental, or anticipated best rental, of each week are bolded.)
Oct. 2
Avengers: Age of Ultron 74%
Oct. 6
Insidious: Chapter 3 60%
Me And Earl And The Dying Girl 81%
Mangelhorn 49%
Magic Mike XXL 62%
Oct. 13
Dope 87%
The Gallows 16%
San Andreas 50%
Tomorrowland 50%
Oct. 20
Exorcism of Molly Hartley no score added
Jurassic World 71%
Testament of Youth 81%
Oct. 27
The Gift 93%
Max 35%
Southpaw 59%
Pixels 17%
With new movies every month, JC Video really is a surprising and unnoticed little gift to the community. In case you’ve binged all of what Netflix has to offer, or the campus wi-fi goes down again, remember that the video store sits on the end of Beaumont, with dozens of great movies!
