Major League Baseball Playoff Predictions

Written and Media by Austin Brinkman [divide]

As the regular season comes to a close for major league baseball, a marvelous journey into the postseason is right around the corner.

Last week, the American league and the National league had teams clinching divisions. Such as the Toronto Blue Jays clinching the East, Kansas City Royals taking the Central American division, and the Texas Rangers coming out on top in the West Division. For the wildcard, the N.Y. Yankees and Houston Astros won those two places after a very close race with the L.A. Angles until the end of the regular season.

In the National League, the N.Y. Mets clinched the East Division. The last time the Mets made it to the playoffs was in 2006 when they were eventually eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS. For the NL Central division, the St. Louis Cardinals clinched it in a very tough division with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs taking the two wildcards. The West Division was clinched by the red-hot L.A. Dodgers who have made the playoffs every other year with the St. Louis Cardinals.

In the Tuesday night showdown, Dallas Keuchel and the Houston Astros were able to take down the New York Yankees. There is another showdown Wednesday night between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs. I think this game will be similar to the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees game. It will be a battle of aces; Jake Arrieta and Kris Bryant will combine on both sides to win the game over the Pirates in a low-scoring affair. In their first trip to the postseason since 2008, the Cubs hope to play another series… another series against an NL Central foe.

On the other side of the AL bracket, the Royals, led by Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon, give the Astors a run for their money and take the lead late in the game to beat the Astors. I say that the Royals will pull out their postseason magic from their 2014 run and win the series in five games.

On the opposite side of the bracket are the remaining four teams in the National League. In the battle of pitching, the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers square off, which will be a great postseason battle to watch. On the backs of DeGrom, Harvey, and Syndergaard, the Mets are doing really well and I think will be able to advance to the NLCS once again by defeating the aces of Zach Greinke and Clayton Kershaw.

The matchup in the NLDS is one of the best in the divisional round, as the Cubs face the NL Central foes the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs did their best to put up a fight and give the Cardinals a run for their money but came up short.

I asked a variety of predictions from Greenville College students who are huge baseball fans. I asked them what teams would be playing in the ALCS, NLCS  and the World Series. Code Power, an athlete on campus said, “The Kansas City Royals and the Blue Jays will play in the ALCS. The Royals will beat the Blue Jays and advance into the World Series”. For the NLCS, Code said, “It will be a great matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and the L.A. Dodgers like it always tends to be when these two teams play each other, but the Cardinals still give the Dodgers problems and will advance to the World Series, where they will be playing the Kansas City Royals. The all-time Missouri State showdown of two great teams”.

Another Greenville College student-athlete Chris Heckman gave some bold predictions. Chis Heckman said that the Houston Astros will beat the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS to advance to the World Series. The NLCS will consist of the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets that will give the Cardinals trouble and will advance to the World Series for the first time in a long time.

We have some bold predictions from excited baseball fans who are ready to see this postseason play out. I know I am ready to see some great playoff games and plays by some great athletes. Are you ready? Will you be watching the Major League baseball postseason? You don’t want to miss out!
