The Greenville College Men’s Tennis team has not disappointed this season. After finishing their SLIAC regular season with an 8-1 win over the Westminster Blue Jays, the Panthers are sitting in the number one spot as they head into the SLIAC Conference tournament. The team is determined to show what they are made of.

GC opened strong on April 12 against Westminster College as the number one doubles team of Justin Tilford and Nate Wieland came out on top of their match 8-6, and the number two team of Jonathan Urshan and Code Power also won 8-6.

Singles also proved to be a success as the number one Wieland, number two Urshan, number three Power, number four Blake Gocey, number five Tilford, and number six Mason Tennell all recorded wins.

The Panthers finished their regular season play on Saturday, April 16, as they

defeated Illinois Wesleyan 5-4 to end with an overall record of 13- 4 (4-0 SLIAC).

Senior Code Power is very optimistic about the SLIAC Conference tournament and believes that the team’s resiliency will help them overcome any obstacles that

may enter their path. “We’ve been in a lot of close matches this year… But we’ve found a way to fight as a team to pull of some big W’s.” Power goes on to say, “Going onto a court as a team, I know that the teammate playing next to me will be fighting just as hard as I am to play their best.”

This is the first time the GC Men’s Tennis program has finished as the SLIAC regular season champion and head coach Brett Brannon believes his team has what it takes to take home the championship. “We have four great seniors in our starting lineup and believe that if we play to our full potential, we will be in good shape.” Brannon also believes that this season’s tough schedule will help them finish strong.

Tournament play will begin on Friday, April 22, at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park, St. Louis, Mo.
