As the spring season winds down for the Greenville College Men’s Soccer team, they still have one of their most anticipated events of the spring left. They will host seven other teams for a tournament this weekend, which will be held on the two practice soccer fields on Saturday.

This is a great way for the team to see what they are made of, and to see all the hard work that they have put in this spring start to pay off. It will be their first time playing without the senior class from the fall, so it will definitely be a learning experience. It will give the younger players a chance to gain experience and confidence that is essential for the upcoming season.

“This tournament is very competitive,” coach Chris Swift said. He also stated that they will be trying different players at different positions that the coaching staff feels will only benefit the team. “The changes that the coaches have made are better for long term success. They are not for just a quick fix during this tournament. It would be nice to win, however, it is about becoming a better team for the following season in the fall. That is the purpose,” Swift said.

The spring season is about building a team chemistry before the fall season and also getting better at the little things, such as fitness, passing, dribbling and defending. It is a great learning period for all the athletes. Since the seniors have graduated, it has given all the players more opportunities to get more one on one help from the coaches. Coach Swift has felt that it has been a great spring thus far and that all of the athletes have been working hard and showing good improvements in their game. He hopes to carry that into the spring tournament this Saturday.

So come out and support the men’s soccer team this Saturday and also catch up with some of the former Panthers, who will be competing on an alumni team for the tournament.
