Basketball is now in season at Greenville University! The Panthers Men’s Basketball Team took a long road trip to Lexington, Kentucky; Cleveland, Ohio; and Iowa over Thanksgiving break. The road trip for the Panthers took several hours as they first headed to the Springhill Suites by Marriott in Kentucky. The beautiful city of Lexington’ streets crowded as the men’s basketball team headed to Panera Bread for a bite to eat.

Senior forward Kealin McLean enjoyed his time in the city; “I really like it out in Lexington. It’s a great city; this is my first time being in Kentucky, so being here is definitely a good experience. I’m also really excited to visit Kentucky University which is going to be really cool.” The Panthers also had the opportunity to practice in the Memorial Collesium! “The arena was very exciting to me especially seeing all the people that can view a huge game in the arena,” said McLean.

As the day ended, the Panthers took a tough loss to Transylvania. From there, they traveled to Cleveland, Ohio. While there, the Panthers visited the Quicken Loans Arena, which was a great experience for junior transfer Sontiago Grady. “Being from California, I never would have thought that I would end up at the Cleveland Cavaliers arena. Definitely a great college experience for me to be at an arena where all the great basketball players play at.” As the players toured the Cleveland Cavaliers store, some shopped and bought different athletic attire. The trip ended with a win against Case Western Reserve University and a delicious dinner at Chicago’s Home of Chicken & Waffles.

On November 25, the Greenville Men’s Basketball Team traveled to Buena Vista University in Iowa. The long, eight-hour drive from Cleveland seemed to take forever. But, the Panthers finally arrived in Storm City, Iowa and stayed at a Super 8 hotel. The Panthers ate dinner at either Pizza Hut or Jimmy Johns, then settled down in preparation for their next big game.

“Storm City seems very quite like Greenville. But I kind of liked it out here, especially traveling to new places I haven’t been before,” said Sontiago Grady. The Panthers played a tough game against Buena Vista University. The game was very intense as the opposing team’s crowd was very rowdy. The Panthers played a tough game to try cutting the lead. The opposing team struck threes as the game got near the end of the first half. The second half finally started and the game was very intense. The Panther’s defense began to tire as the opponents took away the lead, and eventually, the Panthers ended with a tough loss. The trip was a great experience for some of the players that haven’t been across the Midwest before.

The Greenville University Panthers season has just begun, but their success will continue! Come out to support them at their next game.
