It can be very difficult to keep up with a spiritual life, so here are 5 easy things you can do to stay on track with God.
Five Simple Steps to Stay Spiritual:
Slow Down. Our lives are full of quick moments that make up one, big movie if you will. If we do not take time to stop what we are doing to think, reflect, and meditate, we just might miss the meaning of life. If we are moving from one thing to another quickly enough, we will fail to recognize the people around us that need love. Slowing down takes practice, but once you get the hang of it, it will be well worth it. You will sleep better, influence others more, and be less stressed and more relaxed.

Study Scripture. The Lord has so much to teach us, but if we are unwilling to open our Bibles, it makes it hard for us to hear Him. Knowing how and when to study scripture can be a challenge if you are new to it, but like all things, you get better with practice. A mentor once told me, “If you are not intentional about it, it will slip away.” Having the intent to read scripture is the first step. Take 10 minutes as soon as you get out of bed in the morning to not just read, but to study the word. This looks like praying beforehand to ask God to speak to you, reading and re-reading verses, and reflecting on what you just learned from the text.
Sit with God. In other words, pray. Today’s American culture does not promote real, authentic prayer. On Facebook, people are always commenting on sad stories, “I am praying for you.” Are you really? Or are you just saying that? Just like any other relationship, it takes time invested into the other being in order to keep a healthy, close bond. With God, it can seem like it takes even more because He seems so far away. However, He is actually right there with us in everything we do as long as we have asked Him to be a part of our lives. In that case, it does not even take setting aside tons of time alone to pray. You can talk to God during everyday activities you have already planned. It is kind of like building a friendship. You may text thoughts to one another throughout the day, but then every once in a while spend quality face-to-face time with them.

Speak. This one is simple. Say words to those around you; words of encouragement, love, and kindness. Christians hear all the time in church to bring in the unbelievers. Giving someone a word of encouragement or a compliment can show others whose you are; a child loved by God. It really does not take much to show others what God is doing in your life. Speak words of truth about your faith to others.
Smile. This one is even more simple. This small, yet meaningful, act of kindness can mean so much. One smile can brighten another person’s day. It is a fact that smiling is contagious. God has given you a deep joy, so share that with others through your smile. Yes, it is just that easy.
