Chadwick Plath is a sophomore from Lodi, California. Plath is an engineering major, and he is the president of the Greenville University Esports Club. Plath said, “Let me tell you, I live every day as if it’s my last. If I don’t go out and live, then what will I have to look back at? I think that has really changed my life. And I can’t wait to watch this program grow into the reason someone goes here.”

Plath is a busy man so he has to make sure to get everything done that is on his schedule. The way he gets his work done is by doing his classwork in the morning so the rest of the day he can focus on his other responsibilities, like baseball and Esports. Doing it this way is easier for him to focus on school first, and then deal with his personal interests second. When Plath has all his school work done and has free time, he likes to game with friends and spend time practicing at Super Smash Bros and Rainbow Six Seige, which are two games Plath is currently playing this year. He also likes to get involved with supporting the sports programs here on campus and attend games which involves him cheering for Greenville with fellow friends.

This January the Esports team will be moving the studio from the lower union into the new Greenville smart building where a 1200 sq.ft. space has been given to them to have 24 gaming PCs setups with console areas, and a Virtual Reality gaming setup. They have also built the 3rd floor of the Smart Building into a usable tournament area where the team can set up our games, and broadcast the matches on a 16ft projected wall with broadcasters and stands. Plath is really excited about setting up the studio in the next couple of months.

Being the president of the Esports team comes with many responsibilities. The job includes to inform and direct the different leagues they have for Esports, which covers 6 games. These games include Rainbow Six Seige, Rocket League, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Super Smash Bros, and Overwatch. Plath is the team captain for the Rainbow Six Seige team so he mostly regulates that so he can stay on top of information and events. He currently is responsible for being in contact with the leagues and management centers that holds our collegiate tournaments. Plath spends time in the studio listening to the players and looks at starting events, like a 2k tournament this winter. Plath wants to draw more students into the program as well, and grow the size of the team to 60 players. The Esports team is open to adding any new teams to the program and any player that wants to play.

When asking Plath if they have practice for the games, Plath answered, “Each team practices twice a week for 2 hours as a team to build chemistry, but we also advise 10 hours of outside gaming a week for personal improvement of video games. That way we can be committed to the program and show how big this program is going to affect this campus.” The players can be seen playing on a twitch account under GU which is used to broadcast the matches and play-by-play of games. Although individual players can go and stream gameplay of any game they want. The twitch page is @greenvilleuniv and they are releasing a schedule soon for all matches coming up so that students can start cheering for them. You can also find the Greenville Esports on Twitter.
