Comedy has long been an old boy’s club. Men have dominated improv teams, sitcom casts, and stand up comedy for years. The origins of the belief that women are not funny is difficult to trace, but can still be seen in parts of popular culture today. Out of the eighteen comedians currently on the cast of Saturday Night Live only seven are female. Late night television has no female hosts. Primetime network comedies are overwhelming centered on a male lead character.

I believe it was Einstein who defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. With this Einsteinian thought in mind, I want to say something to those of you out there who feel drawn to someone on the Greenville campus but have yet to make a move because you’re expecting a miracle to make that relationship happen for you - you are “insane.” I can hear some of you now, “So what chance do I have?”

They had been held captive and raped by 52-year-old Ariel Castro, who has now been charged not only with the kidnappings but also murder, as he reportedly forced a miscarriage for at least one of the women after impregnating her.
