The basketball season recently came to an end for the men and women of Greenville. The men’s team ended with an overall record of 15-10, and the women’s team ended 10-15. Unfortunately, neither team was able to gain a position in playoffs; however, as post season training begins for both teams, it’s a good time to reflect on the 2013-14 seasons of both Greenville teams.
This past week the Lady Panthers won one of two games as they began to wrap up the final touches of their season. On Wednesday the Ladies suffered a loss to Webster as they could not overcome a poor shooting first half. Senior, Emily Gundy kept the Panthers alive, converting on four of her five first half field goals, including two three pointers.
The Lady Panthers are coming off of a split week losing to Westminster on Wednesday and securing a win against Blackburn on Saturday. The week started off a bit grisly as the ladies fought on the road.
On Saturday Dec. 7 the Lady Panthers found a new gear on offense and dominated Blackburn in the afternoon contest. Right off of the beginning tip Greenville scored a fast break bucket and established the fast pace they would command throughout the rest of the game. Senior Emily Gundy helped kick start the Panthers offense in the first half with an early three pointer and an and-one conversion. Sophomore forward, Coley Baker also sparked the Panthers surge with consecutive blocks in the Panthers’ zone, and drawing fouls on the offensive end. Within five minutes of play, the Panthers already owned a solid 20-5 lead over the Beavers.
