Christian Genre Spotlights: A Guide to New Music Discoveries

When asking people about their thoughts on Christian music, I got a lot of people saying that they don't listen to Christian music or they are not a big fan of Christian music. A lot of people brought up the point that "it all sounds the same" or "it is just not the style of music I like." When you hear "Christian music" does K-LOVE pop into your mind? Yet, there is so much more than just K-LOVE, there is actually a lot of different genres within Christian music other then the songs played on the typical Christian radio station. I have made a list and included videos along with them to maybe help you discover new genres or artists that sing for the Kingdom of God.

Alcest’s “Shelter”: Black Metal Brought to Light

When attempting to critically analyze and review the creative work of another, objectivity is of paramount importance. Personal enjoyment must be put aside and the work must be examined with an open and unbiased mind. Sometimes, this creates a conflict of interest within the reviewers’ mind and makes it rather difficult to remain a credible source and refrain from transforming into just another gushing “fanboy/girl”.

Fit For A King – Creation/Destruction

Following a self-released debut album, Fit For A King signed with Solid State Records in 2011. Their first album, Creation|Destruction, with Solid State was just recently released (March 12), and it is an excellent beginning album with which both the band and Solid State should be quite pleased. From the starting gate, Creation|Destruction comes out strong with the song “Warpath,” a heavy opener that immediately presents FFAK’s unique mix of technical precision and gutsy groove.
