hit a walk-off homerun to end the game and grant them their first win of the season last Friday against Dubuque. Montgomery was extremely realistic as he states, “I try not to focus on those things because baseball is tricky. You can have one good game, and then three bad ones in a row.”
This week for the GC Athlete of the Week, we chose to honor Montgomery for his late-game heroics. He is a senior computer and information science major. On the baseball diamond, he plays multiple positions from mainly being a catcher but also plays first base and designated hitter. He grew up only 25 miles away from Greenville College in Vandalia, Ill. He has been playing baseball all his life starting at the age of four and he realized in junior high that he would want to continue focusing on baseball and play at the collegiate level.

Greenville College seemed like a perfect fit for Montgomery as it was very close to home and he felt that he had the ability to contribute his skills to the baseball team. Greenville College’s Baseball program has had a huge effect on Montgomery.  “I have a whole team full of brothers that I know I can always count on,” Montgomery said.
Greenville College Baseball has achieved a lot of success in the past couple of years. Last season, the team was able to win their first ever conference tournament and then attend the first round of NCAA regionals. Montgomery has also been a very valuable player as he has been named to the second and first team all-conference and to the second team all-region.
Montgomery has really enjoyed his time here at Greenville College and one of his all-time favorite memories was being a part of a team that won their very first conference title. Montgomery will be greatly missed after this season ends and he goes onto his next journey. He is uncertain of what he would like to do in that next step but is extremely interested in taking on a role as a programmer.
Greenville College Baseball is looking to earn their second-ever conference title this spring so make sure you check out the baseball crew this season. Their next game will be this Friday,March 11 at 2:00 pm. Come out and be a part of this great journey that the baseball team is on!
