Album: Mmhmm by Relient K

There is something special about the way Relient K goes about writing their songs and if there is an album to best exemplify this, it’s Mmhmm. Easily their most popular album, Mmhmm is the perfect balance of musicality and lyricism. The songs are plenty of fun while retaining an aspect of sincerity, reality, and seriousness. If I was forced to live by the ideologies of a single album, I would choose this album.

Favorite Lyric: “And this is how I choose to live

As if I’m jumping off a cliff

Knowing that you’ll save me”

Length of Consumption: 50 Minutes, 21 Seconds.

Song: Sometimes You’re The Hammer, Sometimes You’re The Nail by A Day To Remember

Some days are harder than others. On some days people need a pick me up. On some days everybody needs an anthem that will help them take the day head on. This song starts off hard and stays strong, but once the bridge hits it’s as if the song is taking a large breath to make its final blow. Let yourself fall into this song and take you away on a healthy power trip.

Favorite Lyric: “I reserve my right to feel uncomfortable reserve my right to be afraid.

I make mistakes and I am humbled every step of the way.

I want to be a better person. I wanna know the master plan.

Cast your stones, cast your judgement, you don’t make me who I am.”

Length of Consumption: 4 Minutes, 34 Seconds.

Movie: The Cabin In The Woods, Directed by Drew Gossard

Cabin In The Woods is the love child of Drew Gossard and Joss Whedon. A lovely conglomeration of ideas and jabs at the movie industry. Some are tempted to call it a Horror film, but it is merely a disguise. This film is highly satirical, critiquing many things, most notably the Horror genre. Please watch with friends and follow it with discussion.

Length of Consumption: 95 Minutes.

Show: Cowboy Bebop, Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe

Considered by many critics to be the greatest anime ever made, Cowboy Bebop is an unfathomable masterpiece. Cowboy Bebop works because everything about it gels perfectly into a beautiful work of art that will most likely be untouched for many years. Spike Spiegel is easily one of the most cool and smooth characters in any work of fiction. If there aren’t times when your jaw drops from the beauty of the environment that this show creates, there must be something wrong with you.
