Mortal Kombat: What’s Next For The Kombatants

The amazing Mortal Kombat 11 has been out since April 23rd, 2019.  Since the release, there has been a Kombat Pack that came with it, including 6 additional fighters to add to the roster which was missing some classic, or “klassic,” characters. The first four characters released were Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Terminator T-800, and Sindel. If you pre-ordered the game to get Shao Kahn, that makes five characters. On the 28th of January, the next entry of the Kombat Pack came out and The Joker was introduced. A lot of fans agree that he was the best character to come from the Kombat Pack.

Spawn, who comes on March 17th, is the last character of the Kombat Pack. Many fans have been wanting Spawn as a guest character for Mortal Kombat since Mortal Kombat 9. For those who are unaware of who Spawn is, he is a fictional antihero created by Todd McFarlane. Created in 1992, Albert Francis “Al” Simmons dies and makes a deal with the devil named Malebolgia to be a hellspawn. Check out the comics and movies to learn more about this fantastic hero story. A Spawn gameplay trailer will arrive on March 8th at the Final Kombat video game tournament in Chicago, IL at Park West. There will be special guests such as McFarlane, Keith David, the voice of Spawn, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the voice of Shang Tsung, and team members for Mortal Kombat 11 of Netherrealm Studios. Appearances from #MKKOLLECTIVE ambassadors feature digital artist BossLogic, costume designer Alicia Marie, graffiti artist Jayn1 and more. We also get more special announcements in the future, but there will be another trailer for the new Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge movie. Also on the 28th of January, an official trailer was released. It will be interesting to learn more about Scorpion’s past.

Adding a new original character is unlikely at this point for Mortal Kombat, but there are many different possibilities for potential characters in Kombat Pack 2. Michael Myers is the top pick to continue their horror movie guest characters they have not done. Seeing as he has a new movie called Halloween Kills coming out on October 16, 2020 (the sequel to Halloween 2018) promoting Michael in Mortal Kombat 11 would be perfect. Second on this list would be Pennywise himself. You want to see the best dialogue of clown beef between Joker and Pennywise? Many fans would throw money to finally have a game where they fight. After seeing fan-made rap battles and death battles, people would love to take matters into their own hands for a try.

As for previous Mortal Kombat characters, story-wise and timeline-wise it would be great to bring back Takeda Takahashi and Kung Jin. Takeda makes sense because he is still alive and is going to marry Jacqui and she knows where he is. People who know of his whereabouts are Cassie Cage and Jax Briggs. Scorpion, his grandmaster, does not. A little reunion would be great considering how much he has lost. Kung Jin is the last of the Kombat kids who should also be in. He played a big role in Mortal Kombat 10, helping the young team destroy Shinnok’s forces, along with being on the path from being a thief angry with Raiden for allowing Kung Lou’s death to be there helping him regain his senses. They received negative feedback for not having the male Kombat kids in this game and since he was the first homosexual character, many thought he was left out because of that. More characters that would spice up the Mortal Kombat meta would be adding some dead character favorites like Mileena, Kenshi, Smoke, Fujin, Bo Rai Cho, and two more guest fighters to add would be Evil Dead’s Ash Williams, and Marvel’s Deadpool. Having Deadpool snarky remarks and skills get to go against the talents of Scorpion would be a great way to play a game in 2020.
