The Greenville Men’s soccer team traveled to Columbia College last week for a conference matchup against Westminster College. It was scheduled at Westminster College but due to poor weather conditions the game was moved to Columbia College where turf solved the problem of rain.

Greenville College and Westminster College were both heading into the game tied 7-0 in the conference play. Westminster ended up beating Greenville 5-0 in a very hard fought battle between the two.

After the game, Panthers’ Head Coach Chris Swift, “ When were down 2-0, we missed a few shots that could have brought us back in the game. This game gives us experience that helps our whole team. And we played a very well rounded team and were young playing with mostly freshmen so this gives us more experience for the SLIAC tournament.’’

Ian Hodge, has had a terrific season at Goal Keeper thus far for the Panthers. He replaced Thomas Crown who was a remarkable keeper last year.

On the other hand, the Westminster Blue-Jays are standing 14-2, and in SLIAC 8-0. They have shut out 12 teams this season and are currently on a six game win streak. They are the number one team in conference and are playing Fontbonne University tonight at 7 pm.

Greenville College made it in the conference tournament as well and is facing up against Webster University tonight at 7p.m in the SLIAC conference tournament semifinals. The winners of these games will play for the rights to keep their seasons alive and move to the championship game.

Potentially, both Greenville College and Westminster College could face off again in the semifinals of the conference tournament if they both win their semifinal matchup. The next two games in the SLIAC tournament will be epic matches between two teams that want to be eligible for the D-III NCCAA regional tournament. So make sure to tune into the games at 7 p.m. tonight!
