New U, New Faces

This year, Greenville Cheerleading gained seven new members, coming from different states and various backgrounds. Coach Washington recruited several girls to cheer at the collegiate level. These seven girls have learned so much in just a month’s time. Now, here is what you need to know about them.

Amberly Grace Slone is a nineteen-year-old freshman from Elkville, IL, who graduated from Elverado High School in 2017. She has been cheering for seven years. Slone said that her favorite thing about Greenville is “it’s small and has a homey feel.”  Her favorite hobbies are hanging out with family, friends, and watching Netflix. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:6. Her major is Social Work, and her favorite class is Intro to Social Work. She said her favorite thing about cheerleading is “trying cool stunts.” Her least favorite thing about cheerleading is dances. Slone added, “I came to Greenville for a lot of different reasons, but mostly cheer.” Her favorite quote is “Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react,” and her dream job is to be a social worker.

Emily Paige Koberlein is an eighteen-year-old freshman from Altamont, IL, who graduated from Altamont High School. She has been cheering for ten years. She said her favorite thing about Greenville is that it “feels like home.” Her favorite hobbies are listening to music, dancing, and spending quality time with the people she loves. Her major is Exercise Science and her favorite classes are lunch and Wellness. Koberline stated her favorite thing about cheerleading is “being pushed to do things out of my comfort zone,” and her least favorite thing is conditioning. Koberlein said, “I came to Greenville because I felt like this is where God was leading me. I had my mind set on a different college and each day Greenville felt like home.” Koberlein’s favorite quote is “Today is a good day for a good day.” Her dream job is to be a backup dancer for Jason Derulo.

Patricia Harris is an eighteen-year-old freshman from Belleville, IL, who graduated from Belleville East. She has been cheering for six years. She said her favorite thing about Greenville is that it’s “small so everyone knows each other.” Her favorite hobbies are listening to music and watching Netflix. Her favorite Bible verse is Matthew 17:20 and her favorite class is biology. She shared, “My favorite thing about cheerleading is competing and my least [favorite] is football games.” The reason she came to Greenville is for “scholarships and [it is] close to home and I like the environment. The staff made me feel comfortable.” Her favorite quote is “It’s just a bad day, not a bad life,” and her dream job is to be a Pediatrician.

Desiree Jeanette Milburn is an eighteen-year-old freshman from Waco, TX, who graduated from La Vega High School. “Everything’s bigger in Texas,” she said. She has been cheerleading for four years. She reports her favorite thing about Greenville is “the positive energy.” Her favorite hobby is eating chicken nuggets, and her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11. Her favorite class is math. She said her favorite thing about cheerleading is stunting and her least favorite is workouts. The reason she came to Greenville was because of the scholarships. Her favorite quote is “Actions speak louder than words.” Millburn’s dream job is to be an elementary teacher.

Samantha Rae Steele is a nineteen-year-old freshman from Effingham, IL, who graduated from Effingham High School. She has been cheering for five years. Her favorite hobby is reading, and her favorite class is biology with Professor Marcello. Steele’s favorite thing about cheerleading is the relationships formed and her least favorite thing is the drama that comes with cheer. She came to Greenville because “It’s simply what worked out.”  Her favorite quote is “Never settle for less than being happy.”

Chloe Grace Grimes is a twenty-year-old junior from Brocton, IL, who graduated from Oakland High School. She has been cheering for five years. Her favorite thing about Greenville is “it’s small and the teachers are really nice.” Her favorite hobbies are horseback riding and playing the guitar. Her favorite verse is Proverbs 16:3, and her favorite class is Sound Reinforcement. Grimes’ favorite thing about cheerleading is stunting, and her least favorite thing is running. She said the reason she came to Greenville is “It was the closest school that had both Audio Engineering and Youth Ministry. Her favorite quote is “This is your life–are you who you want to be?”  Her dream is to be Switchfoot’s audio engineer.

Kallie Lee Cundiff is a nineteen-year-old sophomore from Wright City, MO, who graduated from Wright City High. When she was in high school she played basketball and cheered. Her favorite thing about Greenville is “all the laughs I have with different people and how welcoming everyone can be.” Her favorite hobbies are hiking, watching Netflix, writing, reading, fishing, and going out with friends, and her favorite verse is Psalm 46:5. Cundiff’s favorite thing about cheerleading is “building a bond with girls and becoming family.” Her least favorite thing about cheerleading not hitting a stunt. She said the reason she came to Greenville is “I followed a friend, but fell in love with the atmosphere and the way God is involved in everything.” Her favorite quote (from her mom) is, ” Never settle. Always have high standards. And marry rich.” She said her dream job is to be a teacher, and she wants to own her own bakery one day.
