The Oxford Dictionary defines stress as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.” Stress is something everyone goes through one way or another. While stress is not always something that can be avoided, there are many ways to potentially relieve stress. First, however, it must be made clear that if you are constantly stressed, if your stress makes you feel physically sick, or if you are stressed about something even after the event has passed, there is a possibility you are dealing with anxiety and you need to call your doctor. If you are clear that what you are dealing with is stress, read on.

One simple way to relieve stress is to use a planner. Using a planner allows for a clearer mind, so that every task, minor or major, isn’t just cluttering your mind. If you write tasks down in a planner you will not only be more likely to remember them without even looking at the planner, but you will also be able to go back and look to make sure you definitely are not forgetting anything. Use your planner to track assignments that are due, test dates, events, work hours, everything! One planner company, Erin Condren, allows customers to design their own planners. Another great way to combat stress is music. If you need to calm down, listen to softer music. If you need to become more alert, listen to something upbeat. If you are just looking for a pick-me-up, create a playlist with your favorite songs. Spotify is free if you don’t mind ads or, if you can’t bear the ads, Spotify Premium is only $5 a month for students.

The most fun way to relieve stress: take a nap. This stress reliever may be a bit tricky for some who prefers napping the day away. If you did not already know, napping is only good for you in moderation. If you do it right, it can relieve stress, boost energy, and improve your mood. A healthy nap takes place between 1 and 3 p.m. and lasts between 10 and 30 minutes.

Another great way to relieve stress is to exercise. No, it’s not always fun, but it is good for you. Go for a walk, do some yoga, play ball with friends. Physical activity allows your brain to release endorphins, which will boost your mood. Physical activity will also boost your energy because your heart will pump blood faster, which will allow you to be more productive afterward.

Stress is something that everyone experiences. Everyone has their own way of dealing with stress, but some are unaware of these simple stress relievers. If you continuously feel stressed, consider speaking to your doctor about other ways to relieve it.
